Hi how do you add a earth connection to a light socket?
My wiring behind the old light socket seems very old and i want to replace the old white light socket with a new brushed steel one which will need earthing thanks.
You will need another wire...Most 'older' homes only have a 2 wire system. Modern wiring includes the 'bare' ground wire along with the standard 2(black&white), which is connected to a grounding rod driven into the earth or to a water pipe which enters the earth.
If the Light socket is in a bath with access to a pipe you could connect this wire to that location...
If you do not have access to an earth location, the earth (green) connection does not have to be connected.
