For electrical morot to Variable Freq Drive cable, why cable screen/armour should not earth at both end?
Generaly cable screen / armour should earthed at one end only (generaly VFD end).Same thing is for any electronics instrument to its PLC / DCS panel cable screen is earthed at one end why?
If the cable armour/screening is earthed at both the ends, the cable armour current (eddy currents) will find a closed path to flow. Thus the current will circulate along the length of the cable, to the ground through the grounding at one end and once again from the ground to the cable armour at the opposite end grounding. This circulation of the current will result in heating of the cable and eventually the cable may fail. By grounding it at only one end, you are providing the current a path to flow to the ground, thus avoiding the heating of the cable.
