How can i get Christmas lights on top of a 50-60 foot pine tree?
I have a VERY large tree in my front yard, and haven't tried to get lights on it in about 4 years. When i did it four years ago or so, i threw a can of beans up there with the light strand tied to it. However, when i tried that this year, i couldn't make it up there. I think it may have grown. Does anyone have any ideas that don't involve a scissor lift ect.?
The easiest way would be to rent a bucket lift (Home Depot has one they rent by the hour)- but that is not an option.
When I asked this of some friends many years ago, the best idea we could come up with was to tie a string to an arrow and shoot the arrow over the tree and its branches. Assuming the arrow falls back to the ground (the string may cause it to hang on a tree limb and dangle in mid air). Tie a heavier rope (or string) to the original string and pull it up and over to the ground. Now tie your lights to the heavy rope and pull them up. You will have a piece of rope that is tied to the top of the lights that you can hide behind the tree.
You will need a lightweight string on the arrow to help it fall back down to the ground as a heavier string will weigh down the arrow too much. You will need a heavy rope because the string on the arrow may not have the tensile strength to withstand the stress applied when you pull the lights up the tree.
